The War On Terror

The War On Terror Iraq

The U.S. Air Force is the proponent service for the Department of Defense military working dog program. Lackland Air Force base near San Antonio, Texas is where the working dog teams are trained. Lackland procures the dogs from a variety of U.S. and overseas sources. The Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and many other government organizations send their candidate dog handlers to Lackland for basic and advanced dog training.

Lackland has trained and deployed thousands of military working dog teams throughout the world, including the war on terror in Afghanistan and Iraq. The dogs are mastered by highly trained handlers to sniff out bombs, mines and booby traps, tracking, perform building searches, and work with combat patrols in populated and unpopulated areas. The dogs are also trained in controlled aggression.

The training, deployment, veterinary care, and logistical needs of the dogs and handlers are second to none when compared to the rest of the world. The results are – LIVES SAVED – wherever they are deployed.
